This paper illustrates that labor division involves splitting-up of work into a number of tasks and roles which are then performed by different individuals or teams of people. Especially where tasks are huge and involving various tasks are to be performed, a division of labor becomes essential in breaking down a job to ensure successful completion. Division of labor eliminates chances of tasks and roles being repeated and puts a limitation on the number of individuals handling different tools for a particular task hence this ensures that productivity is enhanced. This splitting of tasks results in a reduction of production time, cost, and better quality of work being done. Labor, is a primary production factor, and the size of the labor force is mostly dependent on the population of adults as well as whether the said adults can work or are ready to work either for pay or not. Labor leads to the creation of goods and services according to Levine &Grayzel. Labor division involves specialization of the specific task to individuals. This concept of specialization and labor division can be traced back to the Sumerian culture whereby division of labor coincided with increased output. Division of contributes to enhanced individual productivity as well as output. Domestic labor is gendered in that women perform most of the domestic chores at homes and more often than not go unpaid for their efforts. To classify their effort as labor, their efforts output has to be of benefit to the household. Domestic labor is value creating and aims recreation of a capacity of working and is not really related to pay. In most societies, labor division is based upon social and cultural factors that determine the different tasks men and women perform. Tasks are traditionally based on reproduction and biological roles of the male and female gender. There are various ways in which domestic labor is gendered; among them are cost as well as specialization. Division of labor is more understood by understanding the skills required by the task as well as level of dexterity necessary.
