Majority of youth through out the world, ones charged with crimes, which call for them to be seperated from society, are, incarcerated in juvenile prisons, which are basically, correctional centers for those considered underage. The film is based in Canada, citing, as well as highlighting major towns and other cities that relate the entire movie and happenings that are engaged in, to the North American country. The setting and all other means made of to make the film a success do not confine these unfortunate happenings to one specific region in the world. Instead, it serves as a mere reflection of things gone very wrong in many different parts of the world.
In this movie, it is evident in display, just how much pressure, the incarcerated undergo while in the correctional facility. The focus on Butch, shows, or rather reflects and portrays the different effects that come with ones attitude, as well as their nature. Butch is confined for attacking a correctional officer, causing him to be blind. 2He reflects those hot-tempered and are not yet ready to adapt the new style of living being enforced on them. Thematically, this portrays the diversity of individuals who lay in confinement behind the bars of juvenile. Just as Butch differs significantly with the others, by being more violent and easily angered, it is the same scenario in the confinements that we are very familiar with, as they lie within our surroundings. In them, different people come together, one learning something new from the other, and in the end, it forms a kind of society. The attack from Butch was generally in the nature of self-defense, and emphasize on the fact that, there is dire suffering of all manner, stretching from racism, bullying and the like, behind prisons and correctional facilities such as the one in question.
