Many parents have the belief that their responsibility is over once they admit their children in schools. In their opinion, it is the duty of the teacher to help the children in the learning process. However, many studies have proved that active involvement of the parents is necessary for the children to develop properly in their education. Involvement of parents in the education process will help the children to recognize the importance of education. On the other hand if the parents show less interests in knowing what is happening in schools, children may not take education seriously.
Parents play a primary role in the healthy development of their children. Children who experience sensitive, responsive care from a parent perform better academically and emotionally in the early elementary years. At the same time, not surprisingly, financial and emotional stresses negatively impact parents’ well-being and adversely affect their attentiveness and sensitivity to their children (Ready Families, p.23).
Poverty, unemployment and lack of education prevent parents from giving proper care to their children. These parameters force parents to give more importance to other things instead of taking care of their children. Neglect from parents often put the destiny of the children in jeopardy. Antisocial elements may try to exploit such situations. In other words, children who fail to get enough care from the parents may often become the victims of antisocial elements.
