This research will begin with the statement that fashion is a general term that refers to the current popular style or practice especially in clothing, footwear, or accessories. Fashion, therefore, refers to any current trend in the look and dress up of a person. For many years, people have been using their clothing to put across certain messages. The type of clothing a person wears fully dependent on the preferences of the individuals. This, therefore, means that clothing is a perception of personal identity and predicting what people, wear is hard because the link between self and public persona is unstable. Understanding the relationship between fashion and dress requires an understanding of the culture. This is because the culture has a relation to social components of society since certain society dress in a similar manner. The dress is a form of material culture that can be used to express personal values and those from outside. The way everyone has an appearance in form of clothing, behavior, and makeup determines the social and sexuality they hold in society. Therefore, fashion comprises of both the personal and social aspects of a person. Through fashion, a person can send a certain message to the society around an individual. Clothing communicates the social identity i.e. describing how a person wants to look and be perceived in the society.
