The film targets the older generation who have the capacity to influence the morals of the younger generations in the society. The plausibility structure in the film is the belief that some people are superior to others. As depicted in the characters in the film, there is the assumption that blacks are inferior to whites. This belief has gone to the extent of influencing Springboks sporting activities. Indeed, it is difficult to uphold morals in society that is recovering from the effects of segregation (Musolf 23). Despite the difficulties of promoting morals in a segregated society, the characters in the film are striving to enhance equality in South Africa. As such, Morgan freeman is using sports to inspire the masses.
People are still facing challenges similar to the past. According to the socialization process in the film, people are acquiring attributes from their peers. In the movie, Ryan is firing agent who is passionate about his duties. He derives his passion from his peers. Ryan’s job is to fire people, a role that he has mastered very well. Ryan undertakes the job because he has the guts; moreover, his socialization process has influenced this moral order. Indeed, Ryan’s background has contributed to his cruelty in making decision.
The title “up in the air,” describes events taking place in extreme conditions. The main character, Ryan loves the comfort of working far from home making him fancy travelling by flight. He combines his passion for travelling with his duties. Unfortunately, he misses the life that ordinary citizens enjoy. As such, he is living a superficial life.
