Oregon has for long being consistent in accordance to records from the U.S Agriculture department on hunger harboring cases of food insecurity. The Oregon state often becomes routinely above the given national average level of food insecurity despite much research conducted in that states. Experts in fact have been pondering on means on reversing the trend the given state had achieved over the years, but still the problem exists leaving many wondering what the exact problem is.
From sociological perspective, there are many factors that contributed to food insecurity in Oregon. Increase in poverty levels especially after the great economic depression could have contributed to it. Economic depression always lowers the purchasing power of individuals and results in lagging behind of a given economy. In a state with few agricultural activities in place, often becomes adversely affected leading to food insecurity cases and hunger on the rise. Furthermore, with little government influence in encouraging state members in producing their own crops, many opted in the years searched for white collar jobs and left the farms empty thinking they will get food from the little farmers available, little did they know they were creating food insecurity in their lives.
Historically, people who attained certain status became expected to change to take doing certain things and leave certain things to the people belonging to the status quo below. In an era in the United States where got little “progressive” national policies in place to help the poor in the society, states like Oregon continue to suffer.
