Underage drinking is one of the main most serious social problems facing America today, it is estimated that approximately 11 million Americans under 21 …, which is the legal drinking age… drink alcohol, and a many of them drink in excess (American Medical Association, n.d). This is collaborated by further claims that motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death in the US statistics from the Center of Disease, control and prevention (CDC, 2012) showed that in 2010, 7 teens aged between, 19 to 16 died in car crashes and related causes every day (2010). In the same year, 56 percent of the teen fatalities in car crashes were found to have high levels of alcohol in their blood meaning there were driving under the influence. Teen using also put themselves at risk in a myriad of other ways such as; alcohol poisoning, which could lead to severe health complications, as well as irresponsible sexual behavior which could result in STDs and unwanted pregnancies. Ultimately, it is evident that alcohol poses a consummate risk to the lives and health of American teenagers; as a result, the go vent has come up with several ways of mitigating the problem. The two main methods used are; banning the sale of alcohol to people under 21 as well as prohibiting their admission to places where alcohol is sold such as bars and nightclubs, the second method is the social host law. Social host liability refers to laws that hold responsible, noncommercial individuals, who facilitated underage drinking in events hosted in their property, which they own, or have leased, the law does not require them to have supplied the alcohol for them to be considered responsible (Mosher, 2009).
