Download file to see previous pages With this information at hand, I started thinking about whether I should or I should not go to the U.S. My friends insisted that I should not go, but all in all I had a personal decision to make. Moreover, my father was ready to support my decision. I decided that actual experiences were better than just hearsay and opted to go to America.  When I got all the paper work done (Visa and school application), I left Saudi Arabia for the U.S. On October 13, 2010, I arrived at the Washington DC airport. That day meant a lot to me because it was my birthday, and it was the same day that I left my country to come live in America. My presence in America has changed my perspective towards the country. It appears that what had been said about America had been exaggerated in one way or another. America is different from what many Saudis believe, and I personally like it.My actual experiences in America started when I first arrived in Dulles Airport. I did not know what to do or where to go. Fortunately, an immigration officer came to my rescue. He was friendly to me and appeared to know that I did not speak proper English. He took my papers and my passport, then went ahead to complete everything for me. I felt at ease and so much relieved at that moment. To my surprise, things turned out to be easier than I expected. The immigration personnel were very nice, kind, and helpful.
