Border security involves continuous activities that view the physical border as one of the last lines of defense. Therefore, it becomes a challenge to address the challenges along the entire continuum. The functional equivalent of a border is generally the first practical destination point after a border crossing or the final port-of-entry. These places include the airports within the country and ports within the country’s territorial waters, these places should be inspected by the border officers.
The fourth amendment requires the officers to have a warrant before conducting a search, the vast majority of searches and seizures occur without a warrant. This becomes a challenge when border officers want to search a house that might be suspected to be having drugs or illegal goods. The U.S Court has issued a number of exceptions to the rights that are afforded by the Fourth Amendment, including border searches, consent searches, search incident to an arrest, stop and frisk procedures, and vehicle inventories. The border officers can seize an individual if they make him realistically accept as true that he is not at right to, go away from the official’s presence. Seizure statistics are used to show evidence that is required by policy makers in order for them to make the necessary budget.
Smuggling involves all the cross-border activities that are illegal and are not accepted by either receiving or the sending country. Although open markets make it difficult for the border securities but they try to implement programs that expedite the processing of people and goods at land border ports, seaports, and airports, while at the same time securing the global trade environment and strengthening supply chain security.
