ring the right kind of clothing can make a huge difference in the way we think, act, and feel” (Webb 132).3 This paper is an attempt to understand the effect of clothing on a person’s inner-self and personality.
Apparel plays an important role in developing attitudes and behaviors from early stages of life. G. Stanley Hal presented the earliest theories in this regard. In 1898, he studied the psychological importance of clothing in children, and his observation concluded that it helps in the development of self (Johnson, Torntore, and Eicher 12).4 It plays an important role in satisfying early childhood need to receive admiration and approval from others. When a child is dressed according to his desires, it acts as a catalyst for him towards positive behavior and generates socially acceptable mannerisms. At school, the uniform that every child gets to wear stimulates feelings of unity, and equality among children. If students are allowed to wear clothes of their choice, then this generates inferiority complex in those who cannot afford appropriate attire. This could be explained by the study that Sylvia Silverman conducted to understand the reaction of high-school girls when they were allowed to dress up according to their choices. The results concluded that “girls with good-appearing clothes differed in many ways with those with bad appearing clothes” (Silverman 113).5 The poor appearing girls expressed substantial dislike for social interaction and avoided group discussions. This means that not just clothing, but appropriate clothing generates positive attitude within a person.
Appropriate clothing has a strong relation with modesty. History proves that clothing basically was invented for three reasons; “protection, modesty, and decoration” (Nielson 2).6 The correlation between modest dressing and self-esteem is often debated and remains an ambivalent issue. There may not be a direct relation between dressing and high or low self-esteem, as

According to the paper school uniforms play a large role in masking differences in students and preventing them from forming groups related to their wardrobe. For instance, without uniforms, those students who wore a certain type of clothing would likely form a clique, thus leading to the creation of invisible barriers within the student body. Some students claim that school uniforms suppress their individuality and freedom of expression.
