Download file to see previous pages I sometimes experience disinhibition when I am so angry at a person. During those times it is difficult to control my emotions and I feel my anger overwhelms me. I have witnessed instances of disinhibition among peers and relatives. In the office, I saw my boss reacting “violently” against one of his staff. When I see violence on TV or movies, I feel uncomfortable especially when there are children watching the show. I really abhor seeing violence on TV and in movies. I feel that because it is often seen in media, some viewers might think that it is an acceptable norm and if you do not do it, you will be the outcast. Sometimes the heroes in the movies are those who commit violence. This is so disturbing especially to kids since they still cannot differentiate what is real and not. Children tend to imitate what they see on TV and in the movies. If all they see is violence, even in cartoons, what will happen to our society? “Children do not learn to respect life because violent television desensitizes them” (Oracle Think Quest ,par 8). It is no wonder that there is increasing juvenile crimes in our country today. I think this is the result of too much violence portrayed in media. Even in cartoons, violence is also depicted.
Parents play an important role in protecting their children from watching violence on TV. They must be aware of the programs that their children are watching. They should also limit TV watching. If unexpectedly, there is a violent scene in a show that their child is watching, the parent must explain the scene to his kid, emphasizing that the action is unacceptable and that there might be other ways to deal with the situation other than violence. Aside from the parents, the people in media should also try to police their own ranks.
