Download file to see previous pages However, most of them are not able to achieve this basically due to two major factors. The first issue raised is the shortage of qualified talent in the market. The managers are willing to invest in the technologies but are unable to find the right talent in the market to be able to meet these goals. The second issue is the pressure to cut cost. According to Selko (2014), enterprises strive to be sustainable by cutting on the overall costs to be able to compete. This has a direct impact on the ability of the managers to allocate resources to technologies which will help improve the supply chain.
In order to understand the view held by executives on the issue of innovation in the supply chain, the article relied on a survey research strategy. The findings in the study indicate that despite the managers viewing innovation as a very key component of the supply chain and the overall sustainability of the business, they are unable to execute their policies in this area. This resonates with the overall theme of Selko’s (2014) conceptualization of the state of innovation in the industry.
Selko (2014) supports existing literature on the top priorities for the industry executives. According to the article, a large percentage of the respondents view multichannel fulfillment and supply chain analytics as the top concerns. This is in line with existing literature and other related studies that have shown that for a company to thrive today, meticulous planning as well as the execution of the supply chain strategy is needed. Previous studies reveal that companies do not only need to compete at the product level but also through constant innovation. This happens because the lifecycle of the product may be shortened thus calling for an efficient supply chain side to accelerate movement into the market without quality being compromised.
