As widely cited, modulus of rigidity is essential in measuring the material’s shear stiffness and it is known to be analogous to Young’s modulus for any elastic behaviour in compression or tension (Benham, Crawford & Armstrong, 1996). Given that a ductile material component useful in providing shear, an individual need to note that the maximum shear stress is safety, which is less than the materials yield shear stress (y). However, a brittle material the criterion of failure is based upon its tensile stress (Gere &Timoshenko, 1984). Research indicate that the theory of torsion often give the torque in form of rotation as
The equation 1 above is often derived from Hooke’s law and it is also valid for the shear stresses though somewhat lower than shearing proportional limit (Case, Chilver & Ross, 1993). In a solid circular section, it has been outlined mathematically that the polar second moment of the area of cross section is given by equation (2) (Ryder, 1969)
In this experimental set up, there were various sets of apparatus used. Among them were the torsion machine, a torsion bar, a gearbox, a torque meter, two protractors, a counter, and a hand-wheel. This way, a torsion machine was used for carrying out a test involving a specimen that was accommodated within the socket at each end. The 60:1 reduction gearbox served the purpose of manually applying the angular displacement at the left- hand side. The torsion bar was essential in this experiment given that it was used for measuring the torque when at right-side with a torque meter being used for reading digital data. The two protractors listed above were vital in this experiment since they were used for purposes of measuring the rotation of the specimen. They were placed at the gearbox, in which case, one was placed at the input hand wheel ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...Physics for Future Presidents Physics for future presidents The current of the globe has created a brawl for power which has resulted to a sense of anxiety and tension in the world. This has mostly affected the developed and technologically advanced nations who have high energy demands and also want to remain at the helm of power as compared to other nations. Subsequently, these issues affect how our leaders act and the decisions they make. Given the prevailing conditions, heads of state have to step up and make decisions not on their political inclinations but rather based on scientific deductions. Due to technological advancements and the improved knowledge in scientific fields, the deductions and...

...Physics 2212 Lab 7 CENTRIPETAL FORCE (Partner’s experiment: Purpose of the experiment: To check Newton’s second law for circular motion when only force is centripetal force provided by a spring Theory According to Newton’s second law of motion the acceleration of an object is inversely proportional to the mass of the object and directly proportional to the magnitude of the net force, in the same direction as the net force. Acceleration is produced when a force acts on a mass. The relationship between force, mass and acceleration is represented as follows. F= ma Where: F is the force applied on the object (N) m is the mass of the object (Kg) a is the acceleration (m/s2) Newton’s second law of motion...

...Physics 221L Lab 12 ROTATIONAL MOTION: Rolling Objects 4/15 Purpose of the experiment: To use our cumulative knowledge of Physics to perform an experiment without the benefit of computers Theory An object exhibits both rotational motion and transitional motion as it rolls down a plank. If it rolls without slipping, its bottom is momentarily at rest and the distance, velocity, and acceleration of the centre of mass is directly related to the angle of rotation, angular velocity, and angular acceleration of the centre of mass. The total mechanical energy of the object is the sum of its kinetic energy of its centre of mass, rotational energy about its centre of mass and gravitational potential energy of its...

...Poor Communication Skills Among Children in England By: ID Email address Location Date Poor Communications Amongst Young Pupils in England Recent studies in England have revealed that school going children are lacking basic communication skills that they should be having at their age. This has majorly been attributed to; poor development of the children during the tender age, less attention by parents, teachers and caregivers, family environment, financial status, ethnicity/language and television/media. As pointed out by Evesham & Media, success of school going children in their studies and ability to interact with peers is dependent to a very high percentage on their communications skills. This is the time when the kids get... Communication ...

...of a business as well as predict what the future holds in that line of business. i. Problem Statement: the dilemma in which sellers get into whenever they introduce new products into the market has been a question that has challenged many business entrepreneurs over time. Most of these challenges are brought about by lack of a deep understanding of consumer behavior pattern. Many attempts have been made by various researchers to investigate and gain insight into this topical issue but not much have been done due to the myriad factors that interplay to bring out the varied consumer responses and behavior patterns. The need to understand influence of consumer behavior pattern more deeply in business therefore rises. ii. Scope: This...
