The object of importance is bridging the gap between the healthcare standard we have and what we ought to have.
The future of nursing has been articulated to focus mainly on knowledge coverage, quality of care and newer functions in the field. It is necessary that nurses embrace new competences levels in order to transform service delivery as they lead inter-professional groups in care delivery. The focus is therefore on knowledge utilization in clinical decisions and production of evidence of research on those interventions promoting the uptake of providers (Stevens, 2013). The aim of EBP is integrate recent knowledge in care decision making so to up processes of care delivery as well as patient results. This comes on the backdrop of alarming reports by the Institute of Medicine which suggested that there existed major healthcare deficits and these were causing noteworthy harm that is preventable. It was therefore been recommended that the gap between what is known to be best healthcare and what was being practiced can be crossed if EBP was implemented.
There is number of major stakeholders on this front; the government (federal and state) has a responsibility and is expected to lead in giving direction on healthcare matters for future of citizens. Hospitals and other institutions on their part have to provide quality care through implementation of such innovations as EBP so as to gain the trust of the public. Nurses are key to the implementation of EBP as they interact constantly with patients and lead other teams in the provision of care.
