Ludwing van Beethoven was a German composer and an essential figure in the transition from the Classical to the Romantic eras in Western classical music. Beethoven wrote music that did not follow 4 movements in symphonies and 3 movements in concerti, for instance, the use of a choir in the 3rd and 9th symphony (Rosen, 24).
