According to Olwig, merseybeat style main difference from Beatles was the material content (177). Unlike, skiffle, Merseybeat style of music is based on pure American templates and beats. The name Merseybeat is a derived from the river Mersey in Liverpool. The first American band that did Merseybeat sounds was The Swinging Blue Jeans with the song “Hippy Hippy Shake.” Some of the members were Spud Ward, Tommy Hughes, Ray Ennis and Norman Khulke. The second group was Searchers a former skiffle group that moved to Merseybeat. They produced songs such as “Tony & the searchers” and “Johnny Sandon and the searchers.” The third band was Gerry and the Pacemakers. Just like their name, Pacemakers, they were the first Merseybeat band to have their first three songs on top of the UK single chart.In my opinion the invasion was from Britain and at this particular time due to a number of reasons. The first reason was because of the increased number of youths in both countries. The youth in British had already embraced rock and roll which influenced American youths to doing so. Young people are also known to embrace change more easily as compared to older people. They also stand for a new section in the community with specific tastes and purchasing influence.
