Importance of Tolerance in Society by Voltaire - Essay Example

According to Voltaire intolerance has caused damaged beyond repair and he sees corpses everywhere because of intolerance. Voltaire takes a strong stand and says become intolerant when you are required to do so, he prefers intolerance over tolerance when a certain limit is exceeded. “Become criminal when they threaten to undermine society whenever they inspire fanaticism.” (Tolerance) Voltaire also goes on to add that the general populace does not know the real meaning of tolerance and hence they are misguided.

“Everyone should be tolerant of other’s beliefs and behaviors.” (Tolerance) Voltaire insists on being tolerant to avoid bloodshed in the society. Time has changed significantly even more bloodshed is taking place these days because of the complete intolerance of human beings. To coexist in the society human beings need to be tolerant and understand the needs of each other, once this happens society will witness much less bloodshed and peaceful coexistence will take place.
