Download file to see previous pages Instead, I chose to focus on the thought process of how to remove the sadness from my life. It may not have been an immediate removal, but the cause of sadness was eventually eliminated from the picture.
During those times when I felt at my lowest point I would always do things to help me feel better about myself or my situation. No, retail therapy does not work in this aspect because spending all that money or charging all that debt to a credit card would only bring greater depression later on, adding on the already sad state of being that I was in. Instead, I chose to do things that would take my mind off the situation that made me sad.
Simple things like listening to the music of my youth and singing along at the top of my lungs usually helped to bring back some happy memories for me. Memories that helped my body release endorphins which in exchange, helped me get a much needed jolt of the happy chemical that our bodies are capable of releasing.
A quick trip to the gym also helps me release the stress and tension that makes me feel sad. The change in surroundings and small talk with the other gym enthusiasts normally helps to take my mind off the sadness as well. Of course lifting weights, running, or any other form of cardiovascular exercise always helps me concentrate on other things, a move that often helps me feel physically lighter after the work out session even though I did not develop a solution to the problem that is making me sad.
Sometimes, it also helps to just have a friend on speed dial whom I know I can call upon to go out for coffee or something in my time of need or sadness. Sadness on my part can usually be alleviated by simply having someone listen to me. That shoulder to cry on also helps me sort out the sadness in my life. He or she helps to make me smile and become a happy person because they refuse to let me dwell on the sadness that I feel.
