In the article, Elliot explores and avers the tribulations and sudden changes in the security surveillance and immigration laws applied in America towards the Arab Americans after the 9/11 incidence. According to the article, the degree of discrimination and prejudice directed towards Arab Americans increased tremendously after the 9/11. The article narrates that the level of security surveillance targeted at the Arab Americans increased in all public places as the presence of Arabs instilled fear and attracted extra-ordinary scrutiny. The level of suspicion expressed by the government and the law enforcement agencies towards the Arab Americans also increased tremendously. Increase in suspicion against the Arab American specifically occurred regarding the vigorous approach the government took to implement the American Patriotic Act. The implementation process triggered numerous involuntary interviewing of the Arab Americans by the United States intelligence officers.
The process of implementing the Patriotic Act particularly after the 9/11 also led to the establishment of an initiative called Special Registration. This initiative was applied on more than 80,000 Arab immigrants, specifically men who underwent facial photographing, taking of fingerprints and thorough questioning by the US authorities.
