Subtitled “A practical manual for job hunters and career changes”, the book empathizes the value of finding one’s mission of life so as to get meaningful employment. It also stimulates the reader to unleash the areas of personal interests that can be converted to a rewarding as well as relevant career. For instance if you are a secretary and you like to write about animals, maybe your desire is to become a contributor in nature magazines instead.
Whether you are tapping your network or writing a resume, Bolles has the strategies for each. The book is not a self-help and preachy; it is a survival guide that helps the reader to identify his or her skills and strengths that can assist you to land a handsome job. Bolles does not sympathize with those who believe and or claim that there are no jobs, be it a down town or a boom. He criticizes the idea by persisting that the concentrated effort and use of the correct approach can get you an excellent job and there will always be jobs available out in the market. You can get a job wherever you want no matter your skills, he insists. For example if you want to get in the movie industry, beyond acting, there are jobs for computer graphics, designers, recorders, hair stylists, accountants and even first aid people (Bolles 32).
Bolles encourage the reader to explore every area, no matter how irrelevant or inane it seems.
