Malathion is degradable and does not persist in the atmosphere for a very long time. It degrades in the air, in the soil as well as in water. It can also disturb the gastrointestinal tract and affect the heart rate by either increasing it or decreasing it. Anxiety can also result and in extreme cases paralysis and coma can also be seen.
