The name of the book evolved from the sermon that Mr. Obama had received from his former pastor Jeremiah Wright. After attending the sermon delivered by Wright, “Audacity to Hope”, Mr. Obama incorporated the phrase used by his pastor and this also became the title for the ‘2004 National Convention Keynote Addresses’ along with the title of his second book which is widely popular.
Mr. Obama’s first book, named “Dreams from My Father”, was a moving memoir written in the personal periphery and dealing with the personal issues such as compelling issues of race, identity, existence and ethnicity. His first book bears the testimony of life in and out of the community he belongs. His second book, “Audacity of Hope”, is a complete deviation from his seeming conventional topics and this book bears the themes of shared personal experiences and values. It is a document of his faith and vision about future that encapsulates and involves the repairing of a political process which is broken. This book deals with restoring a struggling government and speaks a lot about the contact of the government with the mass which according to Mr. Obama has completely fallen out of its place and needs a lot of endeavor to be restored.
In an interview to Daphne Durham, when Mr. Obama was asked about his inspiration or motivation for his book, “The Audacity of Hope”, he responded, “Im inspired by the people I meet in my travels - hearing their stories, seeing the hardships they overcome, their fundamental optimism and decency.
