As an international student embarking on a journey to discover and explore life – journey to be oneself seems to be the riskiest, most challenging, but ultimately rewarding experience because it is only through a holistic knowledge of oneself would one be able to acknowledge that we are made to fulfill God’s purpose for our existence.
As I embark on the journey of discovering and becoming myself, I am determined to face diverse risks and challenges in terms of complying with academic requirements and integrating faith and learning to prepare me for a life of service through a growing awareness that selfless dedication enables one to accomplish God’s purpose for man in life. Learning opens one’s mind to diverse information of various facets. Faith helps one focus on trusting the Divine Power for direction and guidance to pursue the career of one’s choice.
All endeavors are undertaken for a specific purpose. Contemporary students are accorded the privilege of selecting from a wide variety of academic programs and courses catering to their unique interests and skills. As an international student, predominantly raised in Indonesia, I am privileged to be accorded the opportunity to be part of the Transfer Program of Business Administration at Bellevue College in Washington.
I am currently actively involved as head of finance of PERMIAS Seattle, in Washington, a non-profit organization composed of Indonesian Students of Seattle and Washington state area. Prior to this, I was connected with Indonesia’s Legislative Assembly in 2008 as a personal assistant tasked with assisting the Legislative Member through administrative tasks. It has always been my ambition to excel in my studies and reach the top level in the field I choose to start my career in. After I graduated from my home land, I planned to apply for a well reputed university in USA because I have made a comprehensive research about the reputation and results of USA universities.
As a result, medical students should consider joining institutions that will provide them with the appropriate chance to equip themselves with the required knowledge and skills to practice their careers. In this case, each institution has its own history based on the focus of its curriculum.
Little did I know that from this experience, I would be smitten and discover a vocation that is to change my life's direction altogether.
A short time after graduation, it soon became apparent to me that teaching had become more than just a job; it had become a passion.
Sometimes I had to struggle hard enough in difficult and challenging situations but I managed to keep my GPA up by working day and night, putting all my efforts, doing as hard as I could and my improvement in GPA's showed that hard work pays! Side by side I gained a lot of will power and with every difficulty emerged a new experience.
The demand for professionals with the degree is on the rise with as a response to the industrial and social need to improve research and applications which in turn directly impact development and quality of life (Eyster 323-324).
