This research started, for example, with counseling in childhood obesity, by combining I with P. There were then other combinations made such as effective childhood obesity. The search engine used in this case is MEDLINE. The attached chart will show what research results were like.
There were two studies chosen to look at, both were discovered in the second search shown above. The study that was not chose was one that met the search guidelines but when the article was read, the outcomes as well as the study was geared more toward the needs of an obese diabetic child and the counseling that might be needed there. Though some of the information in the study might be beneficial in answering our question, it was determined that it would not be used. In the event that this was a full research paper, it might have been used for the amounts of pertinent information available.
The second of these two articles was well rounded enough to give us good information to answer the research question formulated. That study was done by Kalavainen, Korppi, and Nuutinen (2007). The objective of their study was to determine the efficacy of group counseling, individual counseling, or no counseling in the obese child. The design included 70 obese children with weight to height factors of 115 to 182% and in the age group of 7-9. They were randomly chosen and placed in the three groups for the study. Each child had a baseline height and weight as they joined the study group and then they were measured again in 6 months and again at a year. Outcomes showed that children attending group counseling lost more weight over the period of study than did the other two groups.
