Today was an exciting day for me. Miss Smith, my high school teacher took my on an excursion to visit the tourist sites in New York. We went bybus. The five hour journey was tiring and uninteresting but we were happy to be going to New York. We arrived hungry and eager to find somewhere to eat. After Miss Smith had divided us into small groups, Pete, Bill, Jack and I set off along the road to find a McDonalds or a Kentucky Fried Chicken restaurant. We could only find little coffee shops, bistros and French cafes, so we decided to take the subway to another location, which was a noteworthy experience. The subway and train were covered in graffiti; the train ride was uncomfortable and had many strange, unkempt looking boys with bizarre hair styles, tattoos and body piercing filling the carriages. When the train stopped at the next station we hurried off and ascended the steps from the subway, climbing them two at a time. On the street we were fortunate to find many fast food restaurants and decided to go to the closest which was McDonalds. While eating our hamburger lunch we began to plan the rest of our day and decided to go to the Statue of Liberty. We had the choice of hiring a taxi or travelling on the subway to Staten Island. By the time we had finished our lunch we had decided the subway was a fashionable way to travel and elected to go back down the steps to the station, this time jumping them three at a time with cameras ready, swinging around our necks.
