Philosophers such as Plato, Hume, Aristotle etc have discoursed on virtuous character yet there seem not to be an agreement on exactly what ought to be counted as virtuous behavior. According to this philosophers virtue can only be equated to knowledge thus one who has knowledge and especially so the knowledge of good is regarded to have virtuous character (McMurray, 2000).
The fact the children are born with no sense whatsoever of right or wrong it is prudent to assert that this good judgment is acquired from the society. The child will be taught by society members a number of mannerisms deemed acceptable such as honesty, respect and live in harmony with the existing systems. Without the society and culture would mean that the child relies on instincts thus will only have to act in a way that is likely to be beneficial to him or her.
The society has also ensured there is a way to reward virtuous behavior thus encouraging its members to be virtuous. There are many moral stories and the like which give examples of individuals that have prospered in the society as a result of being virtuous. In the same way others are encouraged to live a virtuous life such that they are able to benefit in a similar manner.
It is not easy to live a virtuous life thus there is normally some obstacles one has to overcome. According to some of the virtue theorist, it is easy for human beings to practice vice especially when the society is reluctant to punish the behavior and encourage virtuous living. It is for this reason that there are laws of the land and the justice system to encourage the people to live in harmony with one another.
Alternatively there are those opposed to this theory citing the fact that character is in born. There are times when one has to rely on his character to perform some acts which the society is opposed to. ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...Unit 7 Discussion: Impressions on Descartes’ Meditations The highly respected French philosopher Rene Descartes (1596-1650) “tried to establish principles of absolute certainty using the methods of mathematics” (Cohn-Sherbok 1998). His famous principle “cogito ergo sum” meaning “I think, therefore I am” in his Meditations, which he derives initially from the concept of doubt, leads to his further arguments towards ultimately validating the existence of God and His goodness. Descartes’ book Meditations constitutes six meditations which are written reflectively using a technique of referring to the previous meditation as happening “yesterday”, although the entire work was written over a timeline of...

...Weak 7 Discussion Questions In order to adequately explain problem we must first infer that the in question is asking concerning which particular model of Volkswagen. For instance, the new Volkswagen Beetle has an interior volume of approximately 85 cubic feet (or approximately 2.40 cubic meters). That being understood, the next logical progression would be to make a wide inference as to the average height size and weight of the students which would be transported. Assuming that the standard student weighs 60 kilograms and occupies a volume of approximately .06 m^3, our inquisitive car owner can safely assume that he/she can (at least for a very brief period of time) pack approximately 20 students...

...Discussion Responses Response You have proposed a nice way of explaining to the elementary the significance of the size of objects by giving the example of golf balls, batteries, and the container. You have expressed that we need to determine the length and width of the seats in the vw to estimate the number of students that can fit in it with the doors closed. While you have said that some students can be seated in others’ laps, you have missed out the space where there are no seats but some students can fit there. Response 2 While your overall assessment is reasonably good, you have expressed some unnecessary doubts like whether the doors can be closed or not or some body parts can be hanging out or not. ... There are many factors that can make innovation fail, and one such factor is failure to appreciate the main objective of the innovation, and link it with the strategy of the company. This creates a disconnection between the goals of the company, and that of the innovation. This is because the innovative product created will not reflect the goals of the organization. A good case study is the failure of Nortel Telecommunications Company to develop an innovative product that reflects its goals and objectives (Shehabuddeen, 2007). In 2005, Nortel Telecommunication, under Mike Zafirovski embarked on an innovative transformation of the company by revamping its Research and Development department, and experimenting with the emerging... Each pair of students will stand at opposite ends of the 100 meter race track. Therefore, teachers must recognize the writing skill level of each student in order to design activities that best suits their unique needs (Benson, 2004). Moreover, the process of teaching writing skills to kindergarten students is...

... number 02 April Discussion and assignment Lesson 7: Discussion. In my opinion, Devendra Banhart, Willy Mason andBeth Orton can be considered, to certain extent, as modern-day counterparts of Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. Just like legendary folk villains like Dylan and Baez, these three express themselves within the folk music genre, although none of them identify their own music with folk. Devendra Banharts music is often categorized with critics within the framework of a brand new subgenre, which is New Weird America. Willy Mason extends his creative efforts in blues and country as well, while Beth Orton experiments within a folktronica subgenre mixing folk with brooding electronic rhythms.
