According to a study conducted by World Health Organization (WHO)1, the number of people with diabetes is sharply on the rise in recent years. This study found out that in the year 2000 the number of people affected with the disease was about 171 million worldwide. But more alarming is the projection for the year 2030, if we continue to adopt the existing lifestyle. It has been projected that by 2030 this figure might reach a whopping 366 million. Though, India and China top the list of countries with maximum number of diabetes cases, the share of developing nations is certainly on the rise in the coming years. The increasing cases of diabetes amongst Lebanese people too are a cause of worry. Kristensen et al. (2007) find out that Lebanese population too has a high prevalence of diabetes, and their cultural and belief systems about healthcare worsen the situation of glycaemic regulation.
Sydney is host to a large number of Lebanese people, who have been there in search for better job opportunities and better living standards. In addition, a number of other reasons makes it an interesting topic. Bautista & Engler (2005) state that the Lebanese population in Sydney tends not to have any acculturation to the native Australian culture. There are many studies indicating increased prevalence of diabetes mellitus in these families. These have been ascribed to hereditary factors, food habits, prevalence of metabolic syndrome, and increased consanguinity over many generations (Abou-Daoud, 1969). Acculturation is a social phenomenon where family values tend to play important roles, and social and cultural factors related to the immigrant race determine the patterns of acceptance or resistance of newer cultural ...Download file to see next pagesRead More

...and inertia-work components of the wheel work and provides its equation as: 143 38. 143 39.Steady-speed wheel work is the positive tractive energy per unit distance during steady speed driving. Berry(2010,p51) notes that if there is no acceleration, tractive power is always positive and hence steady-speed work will be the instantaneous road-work at a specific velocity, proportional to road load and is given by the equation, 144 40. 144 41.Berry(2010,p52) describes the “acceleration wheel work” as the difference between the actual wheel work and steady speed wheel work at average speed reflecting the role of acceleration in wheel work and also the impact of variations and fluctuations in speed and as given by the...

...projections in 2006, the industry remains to be an attractive industry (Awbi, 2006a; Tesco expands in Japan, backtracks on China, 2006). Research Rationale As early as 2001, analysts have already predicted a developing price war among UK's supermarkets due to jockeying in the UK for market position as a platform of expansion (UK 'poised for supermarket wars'). Another important factor contributing to the competition in industry has been due to the entrants of small and big players into the industry which included the vigorous expansion of Wal-Mart in the UK (Schrage, 2005) However, indicators from the second half of 2006 have indicated that earlier projections in 2004 may still be achievable due to...

...Précis The Queen Victoria Building is nestled in the heart of Sydney’s central business district. It was built in the late 1800s and fashioned in the Romanesque Architectural Design. It was commissioned to house their markets and shops trading all sorts of produce and livestock. This building did not do too well as a commercial centre and as the years of depression ravaged Australia, the building fell into disrepair. Plans to tear it down, to convert it into other purposes were proposed throughout the years, but the people of Sydney rejected all these plans. The city government finally decided to restore it to its original grandeur and it was reopened as a commercial centre in the 1980s. Just as...

...in assessing, making recommendations, and educating the patient and significant others about foot disease as it relates to the condition of diabetes. Clapham (1997) suggests the importance of educational and interactive sessions with the diabetic patient by providing ‘an informal, non threatening atmosphere to encourage questions and the airing of any fears or anxieties’ (Clapham, 1997, p. 852). This view taken by Clapham (1997) is the basis for the research planned, in which regular communication with the patient will determine what influences them to implement good foot care. Gallichan (1997) reinforces this by suggesting that nursing intervention and interaction...
