Medieval art was manifest in different media such as sculptures, mosaics, stained glass and illuminated manuscripts. These are the few that have got substantial evidence that has been found to date. It is as well suggested that there were wall paintings, ivory carving in North Africa and enamel decoration. It was developed due to the influence of artistically rich Roman Empire and the traditions of the early church. They were infused with the artistic touch of Northern Europe to produce artistic legacy.
During the medieval age, science was mainly the study of nature. There were disciplines like mathematics and natural philosophy. There were scholars of the period like Isodore, Buridan and Oreseme. Most of the Western Europe (where Western Europe is defined by the cultures bound by the Roman Catholic Church and Latin Language) did not have any major developments scientifically at the time of the early middle ages especially due to the lack of the Greek influence. It paved way for the Western Europe to lead in the scientific discovery period. In the late middle age, there were developments from great thinkers. The modern Occam’s Razor, a principle of Heuristics used to select between underdetermined theories, was studied by William of Occam; a logic scholar of the age. There was new found vigor in scientific scholarliness after the treaties of Byzantine and Islamic Empires, sparking new insights and speculations. It led to scientific hallmarks like Jean Buridan querying Aristotle’s mechanics and developing rationale for working out modern inertia.
Medieval literature span across the many writings done in the middle ages. There were as many secular works as were religious ones.
