The businesses that use database may easily impose the uniform standards over important data as the data can be easily formatted to fix into a particular screen. The applications of the database are much easier and quicker to develop because of the standardized components.
The databases are also more flexible than file system because of their designs and therefore employees are able to operate it easily. Database is also much cheaper for businesses. The cost of implementing a huge database across the organization is less than implementing a file system. It can be installed easily and is much more user friendly than file processing system. It also makes the training much easier for the employees (Anon., 2013).
Database provides an ease to the businesses to change information, therefore organizations that use it their database remain up to date. Users are allowed to make changes in the data anytime they want. Databases are powerful than the ordinary file processing system. They also allow easy access and sharing of data. It also reduces redundancy and data storage. It also allows the users to avoid many of the data inconsistencies. The security procedures associated with databases are much easier as they can be codified within database.
There are several disadvantages associated with the file processing system that may also affect the performance of businesses. The first most significant disadvantage of file system is the documents are needed to be stored in filling cabinet, which may take a lot of space.
