If I were to outline a literature review for this article, it would be so detailed. I would ensure that it contains all the necessary information summarized in a clear and precise manner. At the same time, it would have to highlight all the relevant sources which are used in the research. These are necessary as they make the paper to be more credible, authoritative and valid than it would otherwise be.
Since Midwestern University is a very large institution, it would not be practical for the researcher to involve all the lecturers and learners in the research. For this reason, it would be inevitable for him to choose a sample of learners to use as a representation of the entire target population. It would be appropriate to select a small and proportionate number of learners to use while conducting the research.
The sampling technique used was stratified. Meaning, after identifying the target population, it was sub-divided into categories. This was evidenced when the students were drawn from the Mathematics Department. Here, the researcher concentrated on those pursuing Basic Calculus program. From this class, a total of 32 learners were selected and separately interviewed, observed and surveyed.
I support the use of this sampling technique since it made the research to yield more accurate and reliable results which depict the real picture of the teaching and learning process of Basic Algebra in this institution.
