Furthermore, Larry insisted that Todd is the only available consultant to address this case. Although the small company did not know that Todd lacked CQI expertise, Todd faced an ethical dilemma since she feared to fail in this project, wanted to be honest with the client and herself, and wanted to keep her job (Cummings & Worley, 2009). As she pondered about her nest move, she reflected on several ethical questions.
There are different types of ethical dilemmas that Kindred Todd is facing. Such ethical dilemmas may relate to misrepresentation, coercion, value and goal conflict, technical ineptness, and misuse of data (Cummings & Worley, 2009. Indeed, Todd faced misrepresentation dilemma as Larry sold her to the client as an “expert” in CQI yet she was not qualified thus a misrepresentation of professions. Indeed, Larry forced Todd to misrepresent an expert CQI with an excuse that there was no other consultant and the client was not aware of Todd’s qualifications. Todd wanted to be honest to the client and herself and wanted to keep her job and hence the misrepresentation dilemma. Moreover, the history about the organization presented a dilemma since various changes in the organization might have changed that data and hence the misuse of data in this case.
The coercion dilemma emanates from the fact that Larry did not give Todd a chance to choose whether to participate in an OD intervention (Cummings & Worley, 2009. Indeed, Larry sold Todd to the small company without consulting her and when she requested for a consultant with expertise in CQI to take over the project from her, Larry forced her to remain in the project lest she losses her job creating a coercion dilemma (Cummings & Worley, 2009.
