In the view of this, the employment pattern had to change since women became very important in the economic development of the U.S. Women also gained the rights to vote as well as to attend college and study just like men. However, the main jobs still remained nursing and teaching in the foundation schools. Women moved to towns to look for jobs unlike in the previous era when women stayed in the rural to take care of the homes and children while their husbands went to work. The government policies were changed not only to allow women to participate in the political system but also got freedom to own property, social and economical empowerment (Miller & Gormly 2006).
The year 1920s marked one of the American hard economic times as they experienced the highest rate of unemployment reaching up to 25%. There was need for a compelling leadership to restore the falling economic as well as political institutions in the U.S. The Roosevelt’s new deal was the measure and policy of Roosevelt that were meant to restore the countries’ institutions that were falling into a depression. With respect to this deal, the role of the government went further beyond the construction of national infrastructure and buildings but there were also the government patronage for arts. This promoted the culture of America, creativity as well as providing entertainment.
The new deal therefore made great achievements in arts as well as in the infrastructure; however, it received criticism from a section of Americans who argue that it did not focus on racism which was tearing U.S. apart.
