Sombrero – the Mexican Hat Sombreros originated as a response to the demands of the natural environment and hence found widespread application in theMexican region. The climate of Mexican-American border is generally steamy and hot with a high level of humidity during most of the year. Mexican central plateau maintains a higher temperature even during the winter period. Historically speaking, the earlier part of the nineteenth century witnessed conflicts and injustice due to different co-existing social entities in the region. Mexican sovereignty was lost and labor used to work on both sides of the border. Originally developed by the Mestizo workers (Latino people who used to work in southern part of the United States and in the Mexican region), the Mexican hat’s design became famous and was then used as protection against the strong sun. The Mexican hat is broad-brimmed with a high-pointed crown to provide maximum shade to the person who wears it. Additionally, it is made of material that is not heavy (straw), to allow wearing for extended periods of time.
