Many great leaders failed in this war, while others, who were considered inferior beforehand, succeeded. The conflict changed our perception of political leadership in many ways. Throughout the conflict, it became evident that Roosevelt was the best leader. In the end, Roosevelt’s America was victorious, while Hitler’s Nazi Germany lay in ruins. Many leaders today can learn a powerful lesson from Roosevelt. However, Barack Obama is a very effective leader who is doing the best possible job under extremely challenging circumstances. Roosevelt was a strong war leader who often made impressive decisions. He brought America into the War after Pearl Harbor and revved up the American economy to fight the battle in two separate theatres. Americans believed in him. They trusted his judgment. He was careful not to over-reach during the conflict and did not seek to aggrandize America—only to defend her Allies, and to destroy the belligerent powers that were wreaking so much damage around the world. But it was Roosevelt’s push at Casablanca for the unconditional surrender of the Axis powers that was among his wisest decisions. In the end, the three leaders—Roosevelt, Stalin, and Churchill—issued the memorandum. This changed the course of the war. Suddenly, the Allies would accept nothing less than unconditional surrender.
