Upon getting into the museum, we were put together with a few other people and were assigned to a guide who would take us through the exercise. The first place we went to is the place housing ancient black and white pictures and on asking, we were told that those pictures were mainly taken in Taiwan and Taipei in the early and mid-20th century. The tour guide told us that the pictures were taken during her early childhood, and mainly were images of women carrying children on their backs, while doing other chores such as fetching water. We were told that the pictures mainly brought out the reality of the poverty that was there during the post war periods in Taiwan.
Speaking of paintings, the museum has a whole floor dedicated to paintings. The paintings that were displayed were of different classifications. The museum displays paintings of esteemed Chinese painters such as Li Gonglin from the song dynasty painter, Chen Juzhong from the southern dynasty, Qiu Ying from the ming dynasty and Wang Hui. After taking close looks at the paintings, one of the paintings that attracted my attention was the reunited Chinese painting “Dwelling in the Funchun Mountains.” The guide informed us that it was one of the most precious paintings and was from a Yuan dynasty painter Huang Gongwang. This could as well be one of the best landscape artefacts of all times.
The mountains in the painting are well shaded which brings out the contrast as one looks at the different features present in the painting. This is what attracts the attention of the viewer, the perfection to detail of the paintings finish.
