Download file to see previous pages... The most evident immediate cause of the war was the inexplicable falling of the American battleship that was named Maine.
This ship was meant to take part in any way through the Havana Harbor, but got destroyed mysteriously, leading to political pressures. Although the president of the United States of America was a Republican, he was forced to admit to requests made by the democratic group and have a battle with the Spanish government. It is important to understand that he had tried all the possible ways to overcome any reasons that would lead to this war. The above argument provides the cause of the Spanish-American war, but it appeared later that it was not the only cause. The main objective of the battle was the gaining of the Cuban independence. They achieved their desires when the Santiago de Cuba and Manila were surrendered to them after depicting a lot of superiority. Although the war achieved the main objective, there were other results of the war other than the original objectives.
The American and the Spanish people were forced to come into terms by the signing of a very significant treaty known as the treaty of Paris. The treaty favored the United States government by giving them the mandate to take control over the area known as Cuba. In addition, they were given the mandate to take indefinite control over Puerto Rico, Philippines, and Guam. Philippines got to be controlled after they got into war with the Americans during the struggle to free Cuba. This was after an intervention from the German troops who had their own interests in the part of the Philippines.
They had planned their attack basing their victory on the conflict among the initial fighters but did not succeed in defeating the Americans army. There was a temporary war between the Americans and the Philippines leading to shift from the objectives of the war.
