London sucked the material wealth of the colonies for free. Specifically, England forced the colonies to produced and send their raw materials to England for free. Next, London would convert the raw materials into finished goods. Lastly, the government sold the finished goods and to other countries at a profit. The process infuriated the colonies’ residents. In addition, the people joined the non-importation and non-consumption movement to fight the imposition of the Townsend duties because England was bleeding the resources of the colonies dry through the collection of taxes, as well.
In addition, the colonies were required to buy the finished goods from England. Thus, the colonies’ money went to England. The colonies were set up to enrich the London-based imperial government. The London-based imperial government’s mercantilism concept was based on the Navigation Acts which were crafted by the London-based imperial government’s Parliament during the same 1660s and 1670s.
Upon seeing the disadvantages of complying with the Navigation Acts, the colonies resorted to smuggling to enrich the colonies’ coffers. The colonies traded directly with the French traders. The illegal trade flourished and enriched the colonies’ treasures. The 7 -year French Indian War focused on the fight by both the French and English imperial governments of the global trade routes which officially started in 1756, specifically the Amerindian fur trade.
