Pre-writing is the first and most exciting stage for me because it involves brainstorming and conducting initial research through interviewing people. In brainstorming, I will think about the best reasons that support the zombie apocalypse by considering the criteria of survival, challenge level, and benefits to humanity. My working thesis will be in this form: The best apocalypse is the zombie apocalypse because there are greater chances of survival, the enemies are not smarter, but not that dumb either, which makes apocalypse challenging, and global warming may just be stopped. After brainstorming, I will talk to people who like apocalypse stories, whether they are for robots, aliens, or zombies. They will give me different pathos and logos appeals already because some people I know are quite “reasonable” and “emotional” when defending their ideas of the causes of the end of the world. For instance, a cousin of mine will reason that the reign of robots is the best apocalypse because it supports the idea that people’s greed for power and abuse of technology will lead to technology being more powerful and abusive than humanity. Another friend will argue that aliens will rule the world. Aliens are the best apocalypse because it is time for humans to know that they are not on top of the food chain, a way of humbling the pride and aggression of humanity. The next step is doing some traditional and online library research to gather more information about different apocalyptic stories.
