In this essay, the writer seeks to clarify the whole issue of animal experimentation for the purposes of medical research. He seeks to answer pundits who vilify him by calling him the enemy and people of his like in the medical field who are engaged in animal experimentation for medical research. He states that political maneuvering and animal rights activism is seeking to cloud the thinking of the majority to shun animal experimentation for medical research without realizing the implications of such an act. He lays his basis for this challenge as his vast knowledge and first-hand experience with disease and how it affects the populous (Kline, 1999).
The author claims that diseases have always been there with us since time immemorial, the only thing that keeps changing is our preparedness towards dealing with the same. He states that continued animal research as relates to diseases is what informs the discovery of medicines that prevent and cure these diseases. Evolution in the medical field has been brought about by the continued advancements in the medical field. The author posits that there are different paths that have led to the advancement in the medical field; drug testing on human beings, model creation of animals with similar diseases and the computer simulated processes of animal experimentation (Kline, 1999).
Animal rights activists claim that instead of animal experimentation, researchers can adopt computer simulated medical research to have the same effect of discovering new ways of combating diseases. The author posits that while computer simulation may work, it is limited to diseases that are already known for you cannot simulate an unknown disease.
