Indeed, deforestation is one of the major predicaments facing the modern society. This is based upon the reason that the rate at which trees are being cut down cannot match the rate at which the trees are being replanted. It is worse still that people do not recognize the fact that it may be extremely difficult to replace trees cut down completely. Analysts and researchers indicate that if the rate at which trees are being cut down increases, the future of humanity cannot be predicted. Winter & Koger (2004, pp.233) indicate that ‘taking the first step is the most important aspect towards solving problems.’ It is vital that all nations join forces to stop destruction of forests in the whole world.
The objectives of this report include highlighting the major causes of deforestation in the world. The major causes of deforestation can either be indirect or direct, according to Sands (2005, pp.129). These causes include:
Trees have been used as a source of fuel for a very long time. Due to the demand for fuel, the cutting down of trees has indicated an uphill trend; the trees are, in turn, transformed to charcoal, helpful for heating and food preparation. Deforestation is bound to increase, if charcoal is relied upon as a source of energy.
Deforestation has also been caused by the need to acquire land for mining, construction of infrastructure, and other commercial purposes. Kemp (2004, pp.30) says that ‘those areas that are useful for mining are more likely to face environmental issues’. In this case, the human beings end up causing natural fires so as they can have a chance they carry out their commercial activities.
Illegal cutting down of trees is yet another reason for deforestation in the world. Illegal logging is being conducted by both individuals and companies whose aim is to acquire timber for their own benefit.
The entire world has to make sure that it is their responsibility to resolve the problem of deforestation. Bechtel &

Charcoal burning, mining and hydro-production have also led to deforestation but the impact is less destructive. Deforestation has been increasing due to the increased search for land for agriculture, meaning that land is being used for agricultural purposes at the expense of forest.
In an article written by Cameron (2012), the author cited “The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development referred to the environmental outlook of the planet as, quite simply, ‘grim’” (Cameron 2012). From among the six most pressing environmental issues noted: water, food, energy, transportation, waste, and deforestation, the latter emerges as one of the biggest ecological problems on a global scale (Cameron 2012; Ecological Problems, 2009).
The debated issue is whether the global climate change is really induced by the human beings as well as owing to the application of science, if so then what should be the actions taken by human beings to save the future world. In 1992, over 160 governments signed The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (FCCC) that focuses its concerns regarding scientific aspects and the function of human beings for persuading certain specific interventions on climate change on a global basis.
Threshold Value Analysis might facilitate rent-seeking behaviour because the decision rule for Threshold Value Analysis is that the model should be developed if the benefits exceed the decision-makers analysis of the costs. The decision-maker may be biased in analysing the costs hence leading to rent-seeking behaviour.
The colossal loom hanging over our heads means a famished future wherein resources are limited or unavailable, resulting in deficient freshwater , depleted gene pools, more vulnerability to pests & diseases, environmental calamities like flood, landslides and
ade in the field of science and technology was focused towards the improvement of the human condition and people believed that wars and diseases would only be temporary occurrences and that the spirit of humanity will prevail. However with the beginning of the World Wars and
As a result of deforestation, a lot of plant matter has to decompose either on the ground or through getting burnt. The process leads to a reduction of available carbon bio-reservoir while at the same time burning of plant matter releases more
There is therefore a greater need to integrate the spirit of environmentalism in every aspect of development to eventually bring about a sustainable world. There is therefore need to value our environmental systems. This has been made possible by the
