An example is genetically modified corn which has its own pesticides and can ward off diverse corn diseases. This paper argues for the benefits of genetically modified crops, since it can help resolve food shortage, improve agricultural productivity, decrease food prices and enhance health, and though it may have potential consequences to ecosystems and consumers, its benefits far outweigh its harms.
Genetically modified crops can help resolve the global problem of hunger. In continents such as Asia and Africa, millions of men, women, and children suffer from malnutrition, because their lands cannot sufficiently produce enough food due to famine and war. Genetically modified crops can resist harsh weather conditions, such as extreme cold and heat, thereby being capable of feeding more people. Definitely, governments should make sure that they can distribute these crops among hungry and poor populations, so that the crops will benefit the latter. Genetically modified crops can also produce more in smaller land areas. When land is a limited source, these crops ensure that productivity is high enough to meet increasing demand. For example, genetically modified rice strains can produce more sacks per hectare or acre, which indicates that it can feed more people than traditional crops. Furthermore, genetically modified crops can also grow faster. They can be harvested faster and the land can be more productive. For locations with high populations, a high productivity rate can resolve their food demand.
Genetically modified crops can improve agricultural productivity and reduce food prices, while also improving the health of the people.
