This article is important to the research on rising prices of gas since it is essential in understanding the effect the rising prices of gas have on the economy. Energy is required in all sectors in the economy, and since gas is the chief contributor of energy, an increase in its price implies that other prices will have to be increased in order to cancel out the high prices.
The article looks at the various ways that can be used to curb the rising prices of gas in the United States. The methods proposed are subsidies and tax reductions, which will see that the prices of gas go down to significant levels. Subsidies will involve the government meeting the some of the purchase costs of gas and tax reductions will entail the government reducing the amount of tax they charge energy manufactures. However, the author argues that these policies will harm the economy and consumers since they will increase fuel consumption and vehicle usage. The result of these policies will be increase in congestion, pollution, increased infrastructure costs and imbalance in trade. The report identifies mobility management policies, use of fuel efficient vehicles and revenue neutral shifts as the viable methods to increase4x transport efficiency.
The report is important in the research since it lays down the measures that can be taken to curb the negative effects of increased fuel charges on transportation. It explains the disadvantages of reducing tax and giving subsidies, and gives the most viable measures to increase transportation efficiency without harming the economy and consumers.
