I have settled on the International Journal of Child Abuse and Neglect, which is co-edited by Bross D, C and Melton G, B because it shares the same ideology as my topic of discussion. This comes out in the sense that most of the articles, research proposals and research papers published on the journal provide an in depth analysis of child abuse and neglect of children with disability.
Contrary to the misconception that child abuse only takes place in case of violence, or when the victim suffers from physical injuries, child abuse is way much broad than we tend to imagine (Peterson, 2003). To this effect, the International Journal of Child Abuse and Neglect, through its publications explores and makes clear some of the myths and facts behind child abuse. Such include the fact that those who the children are familiar with can perpetrate child abuse, contrary to the belief that strangers and bad people perpetrate child abuse.
The publications similarly discuss some of the effects of child abuse, arguing that lack of trust and difficulties in maintaining relationships are some of the challenges that abused children live with. This is because they believe that they have no one to trust once their parents have let them down. Similarly, such people live with the feeling of being worthless and damaged as they have on several occasions been referred to as stupid and failures who cannot achieve anything worthwhile in life. According to most of the publications on the journal, victims of child abuse find it challenging to control their emotions, and this makes them lose their temper faster compared to the rest of the population.
