It seems that today all of the education institutions should start following the policy of democracy and compete freedom. Otherwise, they risk losing more and more students to home-based education. Pity, but most of the school principals still do not get this threat. In addition, they kill all those pieces of creativity left behind the child’s mind.
Most of the modern schools were taken under the total control of those who have money. Billionaires around the world began to treat places of education as just another convenient “gold mine” to earn per living. And, once more, the belief that money rules the world was proved. U.S. Department of Education has announced some new regulations born under the influence of rich guys without any honor or humanity.
You may think of traditional methods of providing tests and exams to judge students for their scores. This approach still binds higher ed institutions (colleges and universities). The target was to dismantle “the root of all evil” (read as tenured teachers, parents who rebel against over-testing, and college professors who sit in their ivory towers citing research that indicates the reforms are bogus).
But, it sounds like another promise (remember that NCLB claim to turn all kids proficient by the end of 2014?) Well, it’s early 2015 already. A dramatic share of American children remains illiterate, suffering from poor conditions. At least, they have something to eat. That is making NCLB guys calm.
A good example might be Bush’s “Texas Miracle”. It was stated then that overall test scores over the state sharply increased. However, all of the scores were simply manipulated in a way to present the president and his government from the better side. Another crucial point for American education system is erasing the gap between different ethnic minorities. Well, Michael Bloomberg at least tried by involving some kind of educational stewardship (don’t even ask what the hell it means). The goal was to reduce the gap between Latino, black and Asian children. In fact, there were no changes since 2003. Current President Obama managed to achieve greater success in this field. Recovery School District is the last example we will recall. Arne Duncan believed in own efforts, but the inaccuracy destroyed the perspectives.
As on today, two most dramatic reforms consequences are: 1) discouraging kids from learning because of the lack of democracy (no right to ask complex or disturbing questions); 2) marginalizing such feature as creativity (“out-of-the-box” thinking vs. cognitive one, any rule break - and you lose).

The government makes a huge mistake by valuing kids as potential employees from the early ages. The point is that a child has to make mistakes in order to learn something. There is no way to raise zombie nation. Creative approach is that thing that pushes any business. But the highly competitive environment does not allow teachers and principals to change policies on their own. They are all too scared to do anything with no official permissions. So, who are the real kids so far?
