Attributes of the Healthcare Professionals

Are you in the process of gaining a medical degree? Do you wish to know what features are associated with a professional healthcare provider? Then, this article is for you. Mind these recommendations for your further education and career. By the way, did you know that such occupations as physicians, registered nurses, surgeons, and dentists are among top-ranking perspectives for all those students with medical degrees?

Attributes of the Healthcare Professionals-1

Communication skills make the interaction among professionals and patients efficient. Every healthcare professional must gather as many details from the patient and his family as possible in order to draw a complete medical record of the particular disorder. It seems quite challenging as far as it is hard for many people to speak up. Besides, this attribute is also about building loyal relationships.

Attributes of the Healthcare Professionals-2Among all professional attributes mentioned in Chapter 4, I would distinguish dedication. All winners of such prestigious award as National Physician of the Year have one thing in common. And that is an unwavering commitment to their patients and healthcare as a whole. Dedication is about two most crucial features: honesty and loyalty. Every professional should keep the patient aware of any changes in his health and hospital’s policies. Attraction is another reason to stress this healthcare professional attribute. It would be impossible to reach excellent results without loving this field.

I would rather choose relaxation as the strategy for coping with stress. This is the time-tested method suitable for any industry’s positions. Healthcare professionals should know which relaxation tool to select better than anyone else. It is proved that Eastern techniques like meditation, massage, yoga, and spa are the best approaches to reducing stress. I will also add such activities as reading or listening to calm music like new age. As it was mentioned, “taking proper care of your health helps prepare you to manage stressful situations.” [1]

Attributes of the Healthcare Professionals-3It seems that verbal communication is more crucial for the healthcare industry. But emotion-related skills make the physician’s speech high-quality and persuasive. Possessing perfect knowledge of a particular disorder is not enough. A doctor won’t gain the patient’s trust without performing confidence and hope with the help of gestures, movements, and emotions. Emotional and cognitive processes are interconnected. So are the verbal and nonverbal communications. Oral language can only carry the linguistic content. By applying it, a professional states the diagnosis consults his patients, prescribe drugs and further treatment. It delivers only informative part of the message, but, to make it complete, non-verbal tools should follow the speech. Moreover, patient’s health depends more on non-verbal communication, especially emotions. One has to be emotionally motivated and healthy to overbeat a particular illness. After delivering a linguistic message, the physician has to watch and analyze patient’s reaction. It will help to decide whether this method of treatment fits this person.

Code-calling, I believe, is the most critical challenge. Memorizing hospital’s policies is not the same as obeying each of them carefully. It gets far complicated if one of the physicians comes from another country and culture. A barrier can occur because of different religion and perceptions. But there is only one Holy writing every healthcare professional should follow: local medical policies. Incorrectly perceived information may lead to a critical mistake in treating some patients. Physicians do not have any moral or ethical rights to make mistakes.

Diverse values, beliefs, traditions, and religion are not the reasons to refuse people who lack medical treatment. To be culturally competent means to possess cross-cultural awareness and be able to find individual approaches to interpreting information and treatment to people of other race, nationality or religion. It also involves a principle of equality. Cultural competence is needed to prevent adverse outcomes of particular healing methods that, i.e., can be denied by some religions (like cloning).
