It suggest that the tree life has been branching the last four bullion years and thus, the starting point can be identified by following the branches back to their roots. With the camera being focused on the fossilized animal and plant parts, the main events that may have led to the evolutionary steps are revealed. The story of the transformation of the whale from a land creature to a sea creature is for example told on the basis of the argument that over fifty million years ago, all mammals were land creatures and the fish colonized the land.
There are some observable similarities and differences between the narration in the documentary and the Mendel experiments. Mendel came up with a model of heredity which is now widely used in understating various biological phenomena involving plant and animal evolution. This was done through plant experiments that explained short and tall traits. The traits were basically as a result of the passage of genes from one species to the other with the dominant gene make up influencing the plant appearance. According to the narration, the similarity between them is attributed to gene alterations which have taken place with time. However, the narration heavily attributes these changes to environmental factors rather than the passage of genes from one generation to the other.
The documentary illustrates how the prevailing environmental conditions had an impact on the animal and plant phenotypes. In exploring the whale evolution, it talks about how the whales in food and safety in the waters forcing them to move from the land to the sea. With time, the format legs changed to become fins with the rear legs disagreeing. Due to the conditions in the sea waters, they lost the fur on their skin and took the streamlined bodies which currently allows them to easily move in ...Download file to see next pagesRead More
